Minnesauke Drama Club Brings Ocean Adventure to the Stage

Minnesauke Elementary School’s 5th and 6th Grade Drama Club made a splash last weekend with their vibrant production of “Finding Nemo the Musical.” Under the direction of Laura Hawkins, Kristen Swift and Paul Wilgenkamp, students brought the beloved Pixar tale to life with colorful costumes, lively choreography and heartfelt performances.

The musical ran for two performances, Friday evening at 7 p.m. and a Saturday matinee at 3 p.m., drawing enthusiastic crowds of families, friends and community members.

From the undersea journey of Marlin and Dory to Nemo’s brave adventure in the big blue, the young cast wowed audiences with their talent and teamwork. The production was a celebration of creativity, confidence and the power of storytelling.

Minnesauke Elementary congratulates all students and staff involved for making this year’s drama club production a fin-tastic success.

Level 3 ASL Students Bring Storytelling to Local Elementary Schools

Ward Melville High School’s Level 3 American Sign Language (ASL) students recently took their learning beyond the classroom by sharing their storytelling skills with young students. As part of a special project, they created original books and visited Minnesauke, Nassakeag and Setauket elementary schools to read them in ASL to second graders.

This engaging experience allowed high school students to practice their signing while introducing younger students to the beauty of ASL. Through expressive storytelling, they fostered connections and encouraged a greater appreciation for sign language within the school community.

A big congratulations to the ASL students for making language learning fun and interactive for the next generation.

On March 28, Minnesauke Elementary students in grades K-6 participated in an engaging and interactive virtual visit with renowned children’s author Peter Reynolds. This exciting learning experience was part of the One School, One Book initiative, in which every student received a copy of Reynolds’ book “Ish,” generously provided by the PTA.

Students read “Ish” both in school and at home with their families, deepening their connection to its inspiring message. To further enrich the experience, they took part in activities such as Minne-ish Bingo, Ish Trivia and Ish writing contests.

During the live virtual event, students had the unique opportunity to ask Peter Reynolds questions and gain insight into what motivates him to create his uplifting stories. The visit left a lasting impression, encouraging creativity and a love for storytelling across the school.

In a heartwarming display of generosity and community spirit, Three Village Muslim families visited Minnesauke Elementary School to share the joy of Ramadan. To honor Eid al-Fitr, families delivered beautifully arranged trays of cookies to the school, spreading a message of gratitude, charity and togetherness.

This thoughtful gesture highlighted the core values of Ramadan – spiritual reflection, kindness and giving back to the community. The celebration served as a meaningful way to foster cultural awareness and bring students, families and staff together in appreciation of diverse traditions.

Minnesauke Elementary is grateful for the opportunity to share in this special occasion and celebrate the spirit of unity and generosity.

Minnesauke Elementary School recently held its annual STEAM Night, where students showcased their creativity and knowledge in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. Participants prepared presentations on STEAM-related topics, demonstrating their enthusiasm for innovation and discovery.

In honor of Women’s History Month, students designed and presented projects highlighting the achievements of famous women in STEAM. This special segment celebrated the contributions of women in these fields and inspired young learners to pursue their passions.

The PTA-sponsored event was noncompetitive, encouraging students to explore and share their interests without pressure. As a token of recognition, all participants received a medal and certificate, celebrating their dedication and hard work.

STEAM Night was a resounding success, fostering curiosity, creativity and a love for learning among students.
